2026 YMCA Camp Roger
Since 1948, YMCA Camp Roger has provided a traditional overnight camping experience that transforms lives. In conjunction with the National Forest Service, at Camp Roger campers have the opportunity to spend time exploring the Uinta National Forest while building relationships with peers and staff, developing good character, and progressing in skill development. We guarantee that!

Add-on: Equestrian
One Time Horse Ride
We encourage this addition for anyone enrolled in Traditional Camp! No skills or prior experience is needed! Here your camper will learn the very basics of riding and take one (1) trail ride led by our skilled team of Wranglers.
Junior Horsemanship
Campers will spend one activity block Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (Thursdays are for the Pool, and Moose Mtn.) before lunch at the corral. This program is meant to provide a slower paced introduction into the world of Horses. Two days are spent building campers’ confidence around horses and things like brushing and tacking with possibilities for learning to lead a horse, as well as activities like horse painting or Wrangler Crafts. The final day is reserved for instruction on steering and brief trail ride or arena ride depending on the Equestrian Directors judgment on the group’s ability over the previous two days.
Horsemanship
Designed with those campers who already have a bit of horse sense in mind. Campers will spend two activity blocks after lunch Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (Thursdays are for the Pool, and Moose Mtn.) down at the corral where they will go through stations that may include grooming and tacking the horse, learning the parts of the horse and tack, horse painting, and of course trail rides and arena lessons. Depending on their experience and confidence demonstrated to the Equestrian Director area work will range from leading the horses, walking, weaving through barrels to learn more advanced reining and control, trotting, and horseback games like red light – green light. Then depending on the groups skill level they may even attempt to canter or lope.

Counselors in Training
The Counselor in Training (CIT) experience is Camp Roger’s capstone leadership program. Over three intentional weeks, campers step into real responsibility, learning what it means to lead with confidence and empathy while being surrounded by unmatched beauty in the outdoors. Guided by dedicated counselors and leadership specialists, CITs take on meaningful roles throughout camp, practicing leadership in action. Every day offers opportunities to build communication skills, problem-solve, and grow in independence. Along the way, they gain real experience to highlight on college and job applications and open doors to future opportunities at Camp Roger and beyond. In their second week, CITs take part in a four-day, three-night off-site trip in the Uinta’s, designed to deepen independence, teamwork, and reflection. There are no additional costs or supplies required for this trip; all equipment, planning, and supervision are provided by YMCA Camp Roger.
Before camp, each CIT will have a brief, virtual “interview” with Camp Director Jake Green. This is not an interview in the traditional sense—it’s a safe, encouraging space for teens to practice speaking about their goals and strengths, guided by an experienced mentor who has conducted skill evaluation for hundreds of camp counselors during his decade of experience with the YMCA.
This program isn’t about perfection or pressure—it’s about becoming. CITs are supported, challenged, and encouraged in equal measure. They’ll come home taller in spirit, more grounded in who they are, and better prepared for what comes next—whether that’s college, a job, or simply the next adventure life brings.

Leaders in Training (LIT)
For teens who have grown through camp and are ready for the next challenge, the Leaders in Training (LIT) program bridges the gap between camper and counselor. This two-week, fully supervised leadership experience helps teens grow independence, confidence, and real-world skills while staying grounded in the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Each day blends adventure with purpose. LITs work alongside our staff in program areas like archery, arts and crafts, horseback riding, and mountain biking to develop 1:1 skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in action. During the second week, campers take part in a three-day, two-night off-site trip in the Uinta’s building resilience and deep bonds with fellow leaders that often last for years. There are no additional costs or supplies required for this trip; all equipment, planning, and supervision are provided by YMCA Camp Roger.
Before camp begins, each participant completes a short, supportive reflection essay (about 250 words). It’s not graded or used for acceptance—just a guided way to build confidence in expressing themselves, preparing for future college or job applications. In February, Camp Director Jake Green will reach out to the primary registration email with the essay prompt and simple instructions. LITs are supported every step of the way by trained counselors and leadership mentors. They’ll return home with greater self-awareness, teamwork skills, and the confidence to lead.

Rising Stars
Rising Stars is the next step for campers who love Camp Roger and are ready to explore what it means to lead and contribute to a community—without their parents by their side. Each day combines adventure and classic camp fun with intentional team-building and reflection designed to help teens understand their own leadership style, communication skills, and personal strengths. Rising Stars campers are still fully supported and supervised by dedicated counselors trained specifically for this age group. They’ll complete a meaningful on-camp service project, practice independence in a safe environment, and experience the confidence that comes from belonging to something bigger than themselves.
